All These People

I was brought to tears this morning when I heard "All These People" from Harry Connick, Jr.'s new album, Oh, My NOLA. I had just turned on WWOZ and didn't know who it was, but the song told such a simple and devastating story of incomprehensible loss and the utter shame we should all feel. The spare writing shares few details--in fact, if you didn't know what the levee breaches had wrought, you might think the song recounted a dream or ancient origin tale.

For me, it captured the (in)humanity of it all.
